Bhutan to send citizens for overseas employment
The Ministry of Labour and Human Resources (MoLHR) has stepped up initiative to send Bhutanese workers overseas to address the growing unemployment.
The government expect broadening scope of employment for Bhutanese jobseekers in the areas like tourism and hospitality, non-nursing health, teaching, IT, accounting, finance, sales, caregiving, and secretarial services.
The initiative is first of its kind in Bhutan. Bhutan the country has been a good destination for cheap India labourers, Bhutan is looking forward to send its citizens overseas.
The government also expect these workers will return eventually to Bhutan after gaining experiences and expertise.
The ministry said that it will make sure that the Bhutanese working abroad will be safe and secure. Firs target of the government to send workers overseas will be in countries with which Bhutan has diplomatic relations.
According to the ministry’s estimate, the number of Bhutanese who are unemployed will stand roughly at 1, 20,000 by 2018.
