Agriculture minister in ambitious all-geog tour

Agriculture and Forest Minister Yeshi Dorji has started one of the ambitious initiation to understand the status of agriculture and forests in all 205 blocks of the country.

A month after visiting 11 blocks (geogs) in Punakha district, he travelled to eight blocks of Lhuentse district last week.

On the way to Lhuentse, the Agriculture Minister met with the RNR staff at Pemagatshel district and urged them to be proactive in service delivery for the benefit of the rural people. The Minister visited the National Noblang Farm at Tashiyangphu and Dairy Processing Project at Chenary, Trashigang, a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of SNBL, a Japanese private company and Druk Holdings and Investments (DHI). The Minister also met with RNR staff and JICA experts with the Horticulture Research and Development Project working in the Research and Development Centre, Wengkhar.

In Lhuentse, Dorji, along with officials from his ministry, briefed the people about the policies, programs and activities set by his ministry that includes cereal, vegetable, horticulture production, value addition and group marketing in Agriculture Department, dairy and poultry production, value addition and marketing in the Livestock department and community forestry, non-wood forest products in Forestry department.

The Minister also visited the RNR-Research Sub-centre and the Mountain Hazelnut Venture nursery at Lingmethang and commended on their impacts and results which contributed in uplifting the living standards of the rural people through income generation.
