New Indian envoy to Bhutan
Its still many months before the current Indian ambassador to Bhutan V P Haran completes his term, the Indian media have already started speculating the new envoy to Bhutan. But there could also be political decision to call back Haran before he completes his term.
Haran is expected to complete his diplomatic posting in Thimphu by end of this year. He was appointed as Indian envoy to Bhutan in November 2012 when then envoy Pavan K Varma quit to join politics.
According to initial media buzz, Gautam Bambawale is likely to replace Haran. He is currently serving as the joint secretary in-charge of the East Asia division that includes China and Japan.
Indian media report quoting unnamed sources says Bambawale has been appointed India’s next ambassador to Bhutan. However, the foreign ministry is yet to confirm the appointment.
