Bhutan mission in New York celebrates happiness day
Though Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs announced that Bhutan will not celebrate the International Day of Happiness with public holiday, the Bhutanese Permanent Mission of Bhutan to the United Nations in New York celebrated the day with a reception.
The reception hosted on evening of 20 March to celebrate the International Day of Happiness was attended by over 200 guests – representing the diplomatic community from the Missions of Member States, staff of the Secretariat and other agencies of the United Nations, friends of Bhutan from the NGOs and Bhutanese nationals working in various organizations in New York.
Bhutan, acclaimed as champion of Gross National Happiness, early this year decided to celebrate the happiness day on 11 November instead of 20 March, to honour the fourth King Jigme Singye Wangchuk who is credited for coining this new development philosophy.
