The Bhutanese Youth Group (BYG) staged a theatre show titled ‘Re-great’ on Friday (28 February). The theatre show was the first of its kind in the Bhutanese diaspora after their third country resettlement.

The show reflected the problems new migrant families face when they migrate to a new country. The story revolved around a family that faced challenges in adjusting with the new circumstances, raising children and teaching the children good behaviours.

The drama was written jointly by Indra Adhikari and Devi Pokhrel and directed by Adhikari. The music arrangement was done by Sushil Niroula and played Laxman Gurung.

The actors from the BYG included Bishal Adhikari, Seeta Dulal, Unisha Samal, Pawan Adhikari, Raj Bajgai, Shiva Bajgai, Bishnu Dahal, Samjhana Majhi, Bibas Ghimirey and Geeta Adhikari.

Along with the drama, there were other dance performances as well to entertain the audience. The one-and-half hour show was presented without a MC with the objective of giving maximum entertainment to the audiences. It was a break from traditional way of having a MC to run a function.

The event was funded by Department of Communities and Social Inclusion through Youth Connect Grant.
