Teachers trained for better nutrition programme in schools
Nineteen school teachers from western and southern districts have been trained on implementing the effective nutritional education programme in schools in Chukka on 29 March.
The nutritional education programme includes teaching students on agricultural activities. And this year, the teachers were also sensitised to look into possibilities of engaging students in livestock and poultry activities.
Minister for Agriculture and Forests Yeshey Dorji had himself attended the training session along with teachers and interacted with them on how to make the programme more effective.
Minister said, improving the nutritional status of school children is top priority for the government and every effort will be made from the Agriculture and Forest Ministry (MoAF) to combat the hidden hunger among school children.
He encouraged schools to start poultry rearing to produce sufficient quantities of eggs to be fed to students.
Minister Dorji also informed that the schools should make use of the technical expertise of the block RNR staff for School Agriculture activities in their respective blocks.
