Prime minister’s salary is now Nu 198,000 a month
People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who objected pay hike proposed by former government, agreed to increase the salaries of political leaders by unimaginable numbers.
A prime minister, who rules to 700,000 people, will now get between Nu 180,000 and Nu 198,000 a month while ministers, speaker of national assembly, chief justice, opposition leader and chairperson of national council will get a minimum of Nu 130,000 a month.
The prime minister’s salary has been increased by 131 percent against the 92 percent recommended by pay commission.
The increase is in contrast to what finance minister earlier committed to the parliament where he mentioned the pay hike would be less for high earners while more for those at the bottom.
However, the government employees earning lowest payment will get an increase of around 25 percent. The MPs will get 25 percent increase.
The average increase for salary of government employees is around 20 percent.
PDP government started with stunt last year to adopt austerity measures to address the weakening financial health of the country.
