Bhutanese take Canadian citizenship on Canada Day

Amber Bahadur Tiwari and Hari Maya Tiwari were two of those freshly minted Canadian citizens on the Canada day ceremony.

Tiwari couple moved to Canada from Beldangi II extension refugee camp in eastern Nepal four years ago. Citizenship ceremony held at Harris Park of London, Ontario groomed many new arrivals as Canadian citizens including the couple. This is the first time resettlement Bhutanese received Canadian citizenship in that part of Canada.

After the ceremony, Amber Tiwary told Bhutan News Network that he was excited and proud to be the citizen of Canada. He said his first plans after being citizen was to travel to US and meet relatives and friends.

First nation people made their cultural performances to welcome new Canadians.

Miss Canada Priya Madaan, state and federal MPs and former veterans were present at the citizenship ceremony.
