JAB to elect new leaders

The second election to elect new leaders of the Journalist Association of Bhutan (JAB) is scheduled for Saturday (30 August) in Thimphu.

Three individuals have filed to contests for the post of president while other posts appear uncontested or ‘yes or no’ votes. Namgay Zam (a freelance journalist and former BBS anchor), Rinzin Wangchuk (current Dzongkha Editor at Kuensel) (dzongkha) and popular talk show host of BBS Dawa have filed candidacy for the post of president.

Similarly, Kinley Tshering (not a working journalist) is the only candidate for the post of General Secretary and Namkhai Norbu (the editor of The Journalist) has filed nomination for Treasurer. Tshering is the current general secretary of the association.

Kinley Wanchuk of Radio Valley representing radios, Rabi Dahal of Bhutan Observer representing print and Tara Limbu of BBS representing TV are the only candidates for board members of the organisation.

The first election was held two and half years ago electing Passang Dorji from The Bhutanese as the president, Kinley Tshering from Business Bhutan as the General Secretary and Chundu Tshering from Druk Neytsuel as the treasurer.
