More municipalities in the offing
When Bhutan holds the second round of local government elections next year, it will have more municipalities compared to what it was in 2011 elections.
The joint sitting of parliament has so far approved the municipalities in Bumthang, Chhuka, Dagana, Gasa, Haa, Lhuentse, Punakha, Samchi, Thimphu, Trashigang, Trashiyangtse, Trongsa, Chirang, Wangduephodrang and Zhemgang districts.
Members have still not agreed on expansion of the Samdrup Jongkhar municipality which was created in 2010 and establishing municipality in Tingtingbi, Zhemgang.
Decisions were also not reached on municipality Paro, Mongar, Pemagatshel, Sarbhang and Samdrup Jongkhar.
