Bhutan-Thai parliamentary group elects its leader
Members of the Parliaments of Bhutan and Thailand have completed the election of a new chairman of their friendship group.
The Bhutan-Thailand Parliamentarians Friendship Group has elected Admiral Polwat Sirodom, a member of the National Legislative Assembly, as their new chairman.
The group also elected Air Chief Marshal Chalee Chanruang as the vice chairman, along with a number of NLA members as advisors, secretary-general and members of the administrative team.
The Bhutan-Thailand Parliamentarians Friendship Group was formed to facilitate an exchange of information and to promote cordial relations between Thai and Bhutanese parliamentarians; ties which have grown stronger since 2008 when Bhutan adopted the parliamentary form of government.
In April, former group chairperson Pilaipan Sombatsiri led a Thai delegation to a bilateral meeting in Bhutan. The meeting was seen as a reassurance that the ongoing political changes in Thailand would not affect good relations between the two countries.
