Australian Bhutanese donate to Dhurmus Suntali

Bhutanese living in South Australia have donated over NRs 221,000 towards the village development efforts of Nepalese actor duo Sitaram Katel and Kunjana Ghimire. Radio Pahichan, run by Bhutanese in South Australia, initiated the fund raising campaign.

The money was handed over the Katel, popularly known as Dhurmus, by Alexia Adhikari in person last week in Kathmandu. The money will be spent for reconstruction of Granchaur village through Dhurmus Suntali Foundation.

‘It is a support to humanity. It is our support to our relatives. We may live in different place, holding different identity but we are Nepali by heart. When Nepalese suffer, we feel the pain,’ Radio Pahichan said in a statement. The money was collected through individual collection and BBQ sales.

Radio Pahichan is an effort of the Bhutanese community in Australia to educate the younger generation about ideals of Bhutanese identity, culture, language and history. The weekly radio show, started in March 2012, goes on air on Radio Adelaide 101.5 FM in Adelaide, the capital city South Australia, every Sunday 5:30-6:30 PM local time.
