As the Gorkhaland demand heightens in the border, India has secured assurances from its loyal partner Bhutan that any anti-India activities will not be acceptable in Bhutanese territory.
An Indian delegation led by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Director General Archana Ramasundaram is currently in Bhutan visit seeking support from the Himalayan nation to ensure no Bhutanese support the demand for a separate Gorkhaland.
Many Bhutanese have shared atrocities in Darjeeling supporting creation of a separate state of Gorkhaland in recent days on social media platform.
Darjeeling and Kalimpong have been the favourite destination for Bhutanese for study and travel. The territory is also the ancestral homeland for Bhutanese royals.
“In a meeting with a Bhutan delegation led by the country’s Home Minister Dawa Gyeltshen, the Bhutan side assured of not allowing its territory to be used for activities inimical to the interests of India,” reads a statement.
Statement reads the SSB chief empathised that as the borders were open and porous between the two friendly nations, most of the border guarding operations had to be based on prompt sharing of inputs and good intelligence.
