DNT announces cabinet

Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) and its president Dr Lotay Tshering has unveiled the team of cabinet members on Saturday through a media conference held in the capital Thimphu.

The DNT cabinet, tagged as ‘agents of change’, headed by Tshering will have Mongar MP Sherab Gyaltshen as minister for home and cultural affairs. Trashigang MP Dorji Tshering will take the rein of the minister of works and human settlement while another Trashigang MP Ugyen Dorji will be minster for labour and human resources.

Punakha MP Dr Tandi Dorji will be minister for foreign affairs, Thimphu MP Dechen MP Dechen Wangmo, who bet DPT stalwart Lily Wangchuk, will be minister for health, Paro MP Namgay Tshering is minister for finance, Sarpang MP Karma Donnen Wangdi is minister for information and communication, Chukha’s Jai Bir Rai is minister for education, Samtse’s Lok Sharma is minister for economic affairs and Trongsa’s Yeshey Penjore is miniter for agriculre and forestry.

Though the party swept the election with votes from southern districts, only two Nepali speaking MPs make it to the cabinet and they too in the lower ranks. The cabinet will have only one MP – 10 per cent representation in the cabinet. Two members from same eastern districts make it to the list – in an attempt to woo the voters in east possibly in next election.

The cabinet members are scheduled to take oath on November 7.
