Dengue is epidemic

Dengue has spread like national epidemic now with 7,664 cases were registered in 19 districts. Phuentsholing hospital registered majority of the cases – over 6,500. Chukha districted reported 1,513 cases followed by Sarpang 100 and Trashiyantse 76.

Ministry of health has so far confirmed 1,989 cases using the Rapid Test Kit.

Two additional deaths were reported due to dengue and as of 29 August 2019. In one week’s time, there was an increase by 451 new cases. In total, four lives were lost to dengue this year as of now.

Of the 1,989 cases of dengue, 430 cases required hospital admission for management and 16 dengue positive cases developed into dengue hemorrhagic fever. 133 samples for dengue positive cases were tested at RCDC to rule out other pathogens.

According to a press release by the Health Ministry, there has been less number of reduction in the number of dengue cases besides efforts for containment by District Health Rapid Response Team and Dessups.
