Bhutan India border closed
Bhutan’s trade with India has come to a halt as India imposes travel ban effective Monday 16 March. India’s federal home ministry announced the measures on Monday to control the spread of coronavirus.
The ban is applied to all types of passenger movement to and from Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar as well. Border with China were already closed.
In the earlier announcements, India had spared Bhutan on its travel ban but the follow up rules bars all movements along Indo-Bhutan borders.
This would likely to create food shortage in Bhutan as the country heavily relies on India for supplies.
There will be intensified health inspections at the entry points.
Bhutan had already suspended all tourists traveling to Bhutan for two weeks. It is likely to be extended.
